The Deanna Kory Team newsletterIn the Deanna Kory Designs 2018 Spring Newsletter, designer and co-owner of Bilotta Kitchens, Regina Bilotta discusses the role of the kitchen as an asset for the resale value of a home. Whether or not you plan to sell your home in the near future, kitchen remodels qualify as “money well spent”, according to many experts. A remodeled kitchen can positively impact the resale value of your home, as well as providing you as the homeowner with a lot of personal satisfaction in the meantime.

Regina cautions homeowners who intend to sell their home within five years of a remodel to select from materials, furniture and accessories that will appeal to potential buyers. In these cases, it’s wise to choose a neutral color palette and design with a “resale-conscious” aesthetic. Regina suggest maintaining clean lines and choosing a fresh, white kitchen with soft color undertones like gray, blue or taupe.

Other recommendations include designing with a “less is more” philosophy for decor and accessories and giving consideration to functionality. For example, the addition of an island can create more work space in the kitchen. Cabinetry with clean and simple lines and countertops that are made from manufactured stone-based materials are both options that will look attractive and will withstand the test of time. Extras like pull-out drawers, built-in spice racks and lit cabinet interiors are all value-added features that may help entice potential home buyers.
