About the Project

At one of NY’s tallest residential buildings, a classic limestone façade belies the sparkling modern interiors befitting ultra-luxury Central Park condos. The 112 different layouts, each slightly unique, also offered buyers the opportunity to customize.

All the kitchens share certain commonalities. Wall cabinets are framed in gleaming polished chrome and feature a layer of fabric sandwiched between two panes of glass. They produce a gauzy effect not possible with ordinary patterned glass. The same material is backlit on one of the backsplashes. The design objective of reflecting the Central Park views was further achieved by custom polished chrome vent hoods and mirrored backsplashes behind the cooktops. While appliances sport matching panels to minimize their intrusion, 2” thick double waterfall island countertops were intended to stand out.

The first kitchen pictured is clad in rift cut white oak for a warm, natural look. It’s paired with a subtly veined white marble that doesn’t overpower the wood. The second and third kitchens pictured are both high-gloss white lacquer for a glamorous touch, but the choice of countertops creates entirely distinct personalities. In one space, moody black marble with white veining feels dramatic. In the other, white and gray marble generates monochromatic serenity.

This project was designed in collaboration with Robert AM Stern Architects, Thierry Despont, Lendlease and Vornado Realty Trust.
