About the Project
A variegated stone wall and a stunning waterfront site inform the scheme for this visually rich design. The stone’s grey tones are repeated in the soft gray of the perimeter’s classic Shaker doors. For contrast, the island employs flat panel doors in a textured horizontal laminate, referencing both the color and surface of the stone. Porcelain floor tiles evoke driftwood.
The deceptively modest square footage lives large. Light pours into the far end of the room through a skylight and backsplash windows, which are flanked by glass countertop cabinets to further expand the space. This versatile area houses dish and glassware storage, a prep / bar sink, paneled beverage refrigerator, wine rack, microwave, and plenty of tall pantry space.
Two different countertop materials were chosen: a solid taupe quartz on the perimeter that pulls the warmer tones from the stone as counterpoint to the cool gray paint; and a striking veined marble on the island. A honey-toned mini brick stone mosaic backsplash again alludes back to the stone wall.
Abundant seating for ten takes full advantage of the wall of glass sliders facing the pool and Long Island Sound. For a quick bite, two stools are tucked under the island.
