About the Project
In a stunning lakefront vacation home, the beautiful nature views and timbered vaulted ceiling practically begged for a Craftsman esthetic. With its emphasis on strong vertical and horizontal lines typical of Arts and Crafts design, the cabinetry is comprised of wide-framed repeated small panels, executed in highly figured natural walnut. The long wall is packed with function. The prep area contains paneled refrigeration, ovens, and a tall pantry. The section opposite the family room is an entertainer’s dream, with bar sink, paneled wine refrigerator, and glass doors for stemware and serving pieces. Slightly recessing the center section of cabinets cleverly breaks up the mass of the cabinetry run. This variation of planes creates depth and a visual dance of surfaces. The range at the end of the room features a custom stainless vent hood with horizontal bands of walnut to the ceiling. Granite countertops and a stone and glass mosaic backsplash lend additional organic elements. The walnut table attached to the island seats six for family meals; but what appears to be a decorative overlay is really hiding an ingenious mechanism allowing the table to expand for a crowd. A totally unique design exhibiting the fine joinery of Craftsman style.
