About the Project

In this pared-down classic design, time-honored details create a warm family setting, while an abundance of windows contribute to a bright and welcoming environment. Painted wood cabinets sport a subtle glaze that softens the finish. A portobello stain on the rift-cut white oak island and bar provides contrast, with an applied glaze to highlight the texture of the wood grain. The gracefully arched wood range hood recalls a more traditional kitchen styling.

Casual meals are served against a backdrop of contemporary floating shelves showcasing cookbooks and serving pieces, as well as a muted trellis-patterned tile backsplash. This area is especially versatile. Although the table is usually nestled against the island, it’s actually freestanding and can be used as a desk during the day, or repositioned to accommodate additional diners. A more formal dining area with upholstered chairs can be found on the opposite side of the island.

Adjacent to the kitchen is an inviting seating arrangement of easy chairs and coffee table, complete with its own wet bar. What better place to settle with your laptop or tablet for remote working or learning? You’re within arms’ reach of a beverage, or a few steps away from lunch or a quick snack.
