About the Project
As a second generation member of the founding family of Artistic Tile, the internationally acclaimed stone and tile company, this client had a plethora of the most sumptuous materials at his finger-tips. He selected a combination of natural stone and tiles to set a glamorous stage for his Chef’s Kitchen. Nearly all surfaces are lavished with Calacatta Gold marble in different formats and finishes for variety. The breathtaking arched enclosure for the range and hood, as well as the backsplashes, use oversized honed subway tiles. Tiny, polished mosaics line the underside of the arch. For visual mass, 2” thick slabs grace the countertops. Flooring is the only different material: limestone tiles with a brushed finish, laid in a chevron pattern, accentuate the stone’s striking veins. Stainless steel floating shelves flanking the hood provide a modern accent.
Frameless cabinetry plays backdrop to the profusion of patterned stone. Slab drawers with a beaded outer profile complement the recessed panel doors. Richly stained walnut on the island and nearby refrigerator / pantry area contrasts with the “Linen White” perimeter. Delicate turned legs on the island add a furniture detail. Including a second sink establishes dual work zones, and convenient refrigerator drawers enhance the room’s function.
A walnut breakfast table with upholstered chairs is a sophisticated yet comfortable casual dining spot to enjoy great food with a perfect view.
This project was a collaboration with Nancy Epstein, Founder and Chairman of Artistic Tile.
