About the Project
With four kids (including triplets) and three black labs, you’d expect a new kitchen would prioritize practicality. But form wasn’t sacrificed for function in this stylish yet efficient space. Every square inch was maximized: a stacked tier of wall cabinets was added, and frameless cabinetry was chosen for its larger drawers and greater interior access. Classic Shaker doors got a delicate ogee profile. Ever-popular “Dove White” was used on the perimeter, with soft gray on the island.
Defining the prep zone is the time-honored, step-saving work triangle of refrigerator, sink, and range; the stainless apron front sink contributes modern farmhouse flair. The island houses the microwave and seating for all four kids, with aisles wide enough to save little people and pets from being caught underfoot. Beyond the island is a dining table to accommodate eight, flanked by two convenient serving areas: one with a built-in coffeemaker and countertop to satisfy a caffeine craving; the other is a bar with beverage refrigerator and glass cabinetry for stemware.
Perimeter countertops are Carrera marble, while the island and coffee station are rich mahogany. Handmade gray backsplash tiles provide appealing surface and color variations for subtle texture and depth.
