About the Project
Even a high-end residential builder can sometimes find that his own custom kitchen has become passe’: dark cherry raised panel doors dated the entire room. For a fresh take on traditional, Bilotta Collection inset cabinetry with recessed panels was selected. Super White paint on the perimeter with a Baltic Gray island and hood trim brightens the space. While the carved island corner posts lend old-world charm, they’re juxtaposed against a stainless steel farm sink, contemporary plexiglass and chrome stools, and cobalt blue art glass pendants.
Providing architectural interest to an otherwise bland ceiling is a dropped soffit mirroring the island. Bordered with crown molding and painted the same Baltic Gray, it creates a central floor-to-ceiling focal point. The hood itself is a marriage of classic and contemporary: sloped stainless sides, edged top and bottom with panels matching the cabinet doors.
As for the layout, the sink and island cooktop now form an efficient work triangle with the nearby ovens and paneled fridge. On the wall opposite the sink is a lighted display cabinet showcasing the owner’s prized collection of hand-blown glass. Grigio Verona marble countertops and a glass mosaic backsplash add the crowning touches of elegance to this timeless kitchen.
