Undeniably, the kitchen remains the most frequently renovated space in the home. However, bathrooms are a close second – and for compelling reasons. These two rooms not only transform daily living but also offer the highest return on investment when it comes time to sell. In today’s real estate market, where “move-in ready” is a top priority for buyers, refreshed kitchens and baths carry substantial appeal.

This month, we turn the spotlight to bathrooms, the second “heart of the home”.

The Primary Bath

A Zen Retreat in the Treetops

In this expansive primary bathroom remodel, size met ambition. The homeowners envisioned a serene, spa-like escape that would reflect the surrounding landscape, minimize visual clutter, and eliminate the all-too-common bathroom chaos. The bay window alcove became the natural setting for a modern soaking tub—positioned to create the illusion of bathing among the trees.

A muted, tonal palette of soft stone and pale cabinetry fosters a sense of tranquility. Hand-selected Dolomite tiles and slabs were chosen for their subtle, quiet veining, ensuring visual harmony. Wood-like laminate in a washed oak finish adds warmth and texture, its horizontal grain drawing the eye across the room. Full-height flat-panel doors maintain an unbroken line, concealing internal pullouts for hidden functionality. A tall linen cabinet offers generous additional storage. Brushed brass fixtures blend beautifully with the light tones, while horizontally mounted dark pulls provide contrast and echo the framing of the black steel windows.

How Natural Elements Transform Your Grooming Area

Natural light streams into the adjacent grooming area, making even gray mornings feel luminous. Dual vanities placed on opposite walls allow each homeowner personal space. Practical tri-view medicine cabinets with integrated LED down-lighting offer both storage and style. A sculptural mirror, framed in dark wood, defines the grooming “desk” and adds an organic touch, tying together the indoor-outdoor aesthetic. Potted greenery reinforces the connection to nature, enhancing the retreat-like atmosphere.

The spacious stone-clad shower invites lingering, with a generous bench and unobstructed views to the trees beyond. Every design decision contributes to a sense of balance and ease – this is daily self-care, elevated. In this sanctuary, every day begins and ends with a sense of calm.

A City-View Oasis: Modern Bathroom with Skyline Views

Rare is the bathroom that offers a sweeping view of both skyline and water – but this one does, and more. Entry is via a reeded glass pocket door, which filters light while preserving privacy. Inside, the space feels far larger than its modest footprint suggests, a result of the minimalist material palette: just three – slatted wood, marble, and glass – used with restraint and intention.

Custom slatted panels of rift-cut white oak echo the reeded glass and bring warmth to the vanity and walls. On the floating vanity, beveled door edges replace traditional hardware, maintaining a sleek profile. Travertine stoneword is used generously: across the floors, in the shower, around the tub, and on the dramatic 6-inch mitered countertop with integrated sinks and backsplash. A glass shower enclosure provides uninterrupted sightlines to the view, while tri-view mirrors with LED accents prove that functionality and elegance need not be at odds.

Achieving a Harmonious Moody Minimalist Aesthetic

In this next modern bathroom design, drama unfolds through contrast. The vanity – painted a deep, moody black -anchors the space, while pale stone surfaces amplify light. Slab cabinetry with integrated channel pulls avoids visual distraction, maintaining a streamlined aesthetic. Bespoke millwork even allows cabinetry to wrap around a ceiling beam, demonstrating the precision that custom design affords.

Despite its airy feel, the footprint remains efficient. A trough sink with dual faucets maximizes usability without encroaching on space. Richly veined quartz on the countertop and shower walls is balanced by crisp white tile underfoot and on the shower pan. The wall-hung toilet and flush-mounted hardware add contemporary flair, while a linear shower drain reinforces the minimalist bathroom sensibility.

And yes, the tried-and-true tri-view medicine cabinet remains a favorite—offering ample storage and a practical perch for perfecting the back of one’s hair.

Bathed in natural light and offering a breathtaking cityscape view, this luxurious bathroom seamlessly blends contemporary elegance with serene minimalism. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the skyline like a living painting, allowing the vibrant energy of the city to contrast with the calm, refined interior. A long, double vanity with warm wood cabinetry and pristine white countertops runs along one wall, complemented by sleek, backlit mirrors that enhance the room’s luminosity.

Delicate circular patterns on the floor and accent wall add a touch of visual rhythm without disturbing the overall tranquility. Every element, from the polished fixtures to the soft neutral palette, speaks of refined sophistication and remodel inspiration.

BEYOND THE PRIMARY SUITE: RETHINKING THE SECONDARY BATH & POWDER ROOM

While the primary bathroom often receives the bulk of attention, secondary or hall baths should not be overlooked. In many homes, these spaces shape the first – and sometimes only – impression guests will have. Given their visibility, the design of these bathrooms can be just as impactful, if not more so, than private en suites.

Sleek Serenity: A Contemporary Bath

Just down the hall from the above expansive primary bath, this elegant modern secondary bathroom strikes a balance between sleek sophistication and inviting warmth.
